Why Theology Matters

It was A.W. Tozer who famously said, “What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”  Theology is the study of God. It is not, however, the study of an object that we scrutinise, but is the loving heartfelt encounter with a subject, the one who is to be worshiped – the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.

“What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” - A.W. Tozer

Good theology should blow the mind and make the heart burn.  It should help us to know more of God and His dealings with us as well as lead us into deeper love and devotion for Him.  Sadly, many can be put off by Theology that is too abstract, remains in the study or seems beyond the reach of the average person.

Theology should not be the preserve of the few. Whilst not all will be academics, all Christians are theologians.  The only question is whether we will be good ones, or bad ones.  Theology should enable us to teach truth, because we know the one who is himself “the truth”, and refute error.

Theology Matters is meant to be Theology for everyone. As such, the team involved run courses based in the south-west of England to help people grasp the framework for Theology (Systematic Theology) before going deeper into the big story the Bible tells (Biblical Theology) and exploring the implications for everyday life.

This site contains articles on matters of Theology, Apologetics, Church history and other areas as well as links to book reviews and various talks.  Pitched at different levels this is Theology for everyone because, we truly believe, Theology Matters.
